Fair Ball

Privacy

The short version: your team stays on your phone. Fair Ball has no accounts, and we never see your roster, your players or your lineups.

What stays on your device

Everything you enter is kept in your browser's storage on this device only: your players' names and numbers, who can pitch and catch, who is here today, your team name and jersey color, your settings, your batting order and averages, your lineups and saved games, and the list of families you send the lineup to. None of it is sent to us. Clearing your browser's data for Fair Ball deletes it, and "Clear roster" on the Roster screen deletes your players.

Usage stats, only if you say yes

Fair Ball asks once before it counts anything. If you allow it, Google Analytics sets cookies that count visits, so we can see how many coaches use Fair Ball. It sends the page title "Fair Ball" and the site's address, never a team name, a player, a lineup or a share link. Google signals and ad personalization are off. Google receives what any website it serves receives, such as your browser type and an approximate location from your IP address. If you say no, nothing is counted. You can change your answer any time with "Usage stats" on the Roster screen; turning it off stops the counting and clears Google's cookies.

Sharing a lineup

A short link is sealed in your browser before it leaves your device. The key to open it rides in the part of the link after the "#", which browsers never send to a server, so what we store is a locked blob we cannot read. It is deleted automatically after 180 days. To stop abuse, the server counts how many links each internet address makes in an hour; that count is thrown away within about an hour and is never stored with a lineup.

If the short link service is unavailable, you get a long link instead, which carries the lineup inside the link itself and touches no server. Either way, anyone you send a link to can read the lineup, so send it only to the people it is for. Opening a shared lineup never reads or changes what the viewer has saved, and usage stats never run on it.

Sending to families

Fair Ball never sends a message. "Text lineup" and "Email lineup" open your own messages or mail app with the link filled in, and you send it. The emails and phone numbers on your list stay on this device.

Who else is involved

Fair Ball is hosted on Vercel, and short links are stored with Upstash. Like any web host, they receive the basic details of each request, such as your IP address and browser, to deliver the page. The video and the fonts are served by Fair Ball itself. Google Analytics loads only if you allow it. "Buy me a coffee" and "Contact" open Buy Me a Coffee, a separate site with its own privacy policy; nothing from it loads until you tap one.

Kids

Fair Ball is a tool for coaches. Players' names stay on the coach's device, and we do not collect information from children.

Changes and questions

If this changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Questions? Leave a note on Fair Ball's Buy Me a Coffee page (opens in a new tab).
